We are offering a dynamic selection of courses available from Kindergarten through to 5th Grade.  Below is the list of courses we are offering at Amador Elementary.

Courses are offered 1 day per week up to 10 weeks. 10 hours of tuition.

Tuition - $175 - $210 per course.  

Each class that moves forward will generate contributions to the School, the Parent Faculty Club (PFC) and to the Student Council.

Actors' Workshop!

It’s laughter, learning and limelight with the After School Drama Club’s The Actor’s Workshop! Through a fun series of theater games, acting exercises and scripted scene work, this introductory acting class teaches the fundamentals of the actor’s craft. Students explore the “three tools of the actor” – voice, body and imagination – as they learn how to create characters, interpret scripts and perform for an audience. The class teaches true theater skills such as stagecraft, emotionally truthful acting, and professional theater etiquette, while encouraging creativity and inspiring the imagination. The class culminates with a free workshop presentation of scenes and monologues for an invited audience.

Art With A Purpose - Create Your Own Chess Set

Design, make and paint your own Chess Set. In this class, students will design a full set of chess pieces and chess board, they will make all the pieces and board out of clay, and choose their own colors and paint all pieces with glazes of their choice. Students will also decorate a box to house their hand-made chess set.

Calling all explorers! Let's adventure through the largest rainforest in the world ...the Amazon! This beautiful jungle habitat is full of amazing and fascinating creatures such as leaf cutter ants, red-eyed tree frogs, emerald tree boas, iguanas, howler monkeys, toucans, sloths, jaguars, macaws, blue morpho butterflies, and piranhas...OH MY! Grab your binoculars, your adventure cap, and let's learn about this far off, beautiful place and the fascinating creatures that inhabit it. Students will take away a "Rainforest Adventure Book" full of facts and a craft or art piece with each animal they learned about! It will be a jungle of fun!

BollyWood Dance Class for Kids

A fun-filled introduction to beginner & intermediate Bollywood dance for kids. Instruction includes foundational movements, fundamental techniques, hand gestures, rhythmic patterns & communicative expressions.  Students will learn dance routines choreographed to snippets of popular Bollywood songs as well as some Koliwood and Tollywood songs from the South Indian cinema. The classes will also strengthen individual coordination and rhythmic skills through various exercises and drills.
Additionally, students will develop a vocabulary of common Bollywood dance moves that they can string together to create their own unique dance. This class expose kids to many different dance styles as Bollywood has become a melting pot of many popular traditional and western dance styles.

Learn chess with Pacific Chess Academy!  This program is a great opportunity for kids to learn how to overcome obstacles, think strategically, and stay focused. Specifically designed for young players with various levels (Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced), the course offers video lessons, easy-to-follow instructions, individual recommendations, and preparation to chess tournaments. The use of the modern technology (projectors, iPad, teaching software) makes the learning process easy, fast, and fun! The class is offered to grades K-5. All necessary equipment (boards and pieces, clocks, demo tools) provided. Participants receive certificates and trophies at the end of the school year. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or a Chess Champion, this class is for students at all ability levels.

Creative Writing Continues - Effective Communication

Writing is one of the main forms of communication. It is also one of the most dreaded subjects. Through this session of writing, students will learn how to communicate through writing. We will be working on many forms of writing. This session will include, writing in poetry, and how to interpret poetry, writing from different points of view, and narrative writing. We will also be focusing on the technical parts of writing such as sentence form and grammar.

Participants will:

  1. Engage in learning activities that give them positive their confidence with writing;
  2. Develop strong grammatical skills
  3. Utilize technology to self-publish their works
  4. Become equipped with the tools to organize his or her ideas
  5. Edit his/her own work.

Does your child love to write and use their imagination to come up with creative stories? Then this is the class for them! Through several different writing activities, we will explore possible ways to think outside of the box and get truly original ideas on paper! We'll experiment with character and plot development in ways that are unique and new from Painted Paper Stories to Squiggle Stories to What If/Prediction Stories and so much more! I can't wait to see what we come up with! This course is constantly changing, so whether your child has taken it before or is a new attendee, they are welcome to join in on the fun for a new and unique experience each time!

Reading is a skill and through reading, we can learn about anything and everything. The better you understand what you read, the better you will do in school, in your job, and in your life.  Students will read Fiction, Nonfiction and Informational text types to enhance their comprehension abilities and process content using higher level thinking. Students will work in peer discussion groups learning and perfecting skills in: identifying the main idea and supporting details, sequencing, relating experiences in a text with real-life experiences and events, asking meaningful questions in order to understand text, and answer questions about a text.  Together we will perfect comprehension skills in a dynamic collaborative environment while having fun and building confidence and motivation through reading.

For the budding scientist, engineer, astrobiologist, astronaut or explorer in your family this course is right choice for them. Inspired by NASA & Star WarsTM, this class is packed full of models that will make your imagination blast off!  Each week future astronauts will learn about the real-life space exploration and build models related to the NASA space program. The Space Adventures class will spark your child’s imagination about the world out there.
Space is often called the last frontier, and has inspired scientists, stargazers and adventurers for generation. Join us on a Mission 2 Space! Discover incredible structures like the launch complex 39 at the Kennedy Center, travel the surface of the moon on a lunar rover, visit the international space station and do it all using Lego Bricks.  All you need to bring for this adventure is your imagination.

This is an excellent advanced level course that reinforces presentation skills and builds upon basic strategies that students have learned. Students not only learn how to write creatively but also learn how to think critically and impact an audience effectively. We work on delivering descriptive and expository speeches, through powerful presentations. Students begin to conduct research on more current issues and learn to present their speeches with the use of PowerPoint, Charts, Diagrams and other Audio/Visual Aids. This course will help kids expand their general knowledge and formulate their thoughts with a clear and concise structure.
Our goal is to develop well-rounded individuals… and to give students with any level of prior knowledge a HANDS ON experience in each class!
